Argentinian victory in Sylhet beat drum and march
Sometimes the slogan ‘Messi, Messi’. Sometimes thousands of people dance to the rhythm of ‘Argentina, Argentina’, accompanied by vuvuzelas and drums. The residents of Sylhet city were so happy after Argentina won the World Cup last Sunday night. Jindabazar, Chowhatta, Rikabibazar, Sobhanighat or Bandarbazar – each area of the whole city had become a piece of Argentina.
Argentina won the World Cup title for the third time after defeating France in the final match last night. The joy of Lionel Messi’s World Cup win spread across the country. Sylhet was no exception. From children to the elderly, no one was left out of the celebration. Before this, people of different ages came to watch the game on big screens at different points of the city, ignoring the foggy winter nights. At the end of the game, the crowd on the street should increase. Many people took out the victory procession by beating drums. Fireworks are seen celebrating in different areas. Many of the youth took out a motorcycle procession. To commemorate the celebration, pictures and videos were being taken at the same time.
Chowdhury Mobin (52) was standing in Barutkhana area of the city and watching the procession. He said watching Argentine legend Maradona play as a teenager developed a weakness for the team. Argentina then won the World Cup. But after that we had to wait for a long time to win the World Cup again. This time, another legendary player took the hand of Messi and the World Cup came to the home of Argentina. He is very happy for this. He came out of the house to celebrate the victory.
A group of young people were marching towards Jindabazar beating drums from Barutkhana Mor. The young people were dancing to the rhythm of the music. Atiq Chowdhury (22), who is in that team, said that he grew up watching Messi’s game. Messi’s team Argentina, that’s why he supports the team. Messi had all the other trophies but the World Cup was not catching up. This was Messi’s last World Cup. Messi’s dream came true in the last World Cup.
Saidur Rahman was flying the flag of Argentina on his friend Pavel Ahmed’s shoulder at Zindabazar intersection. He rode on his friend’s shoulder for about half an hour. Pavel Ahmed said, he worked all day in a private company and sat down to watch the game at night. However, Argentina’s victory has removed all fatigue.
Moazzem Hossain, who participated in the victory celebration of Argentina, said that he is basically a supporter of the German team. However, after his team’s exit from the World Cup, he was praying that Messi would win the World Cup this time.
Driver Raja Mia (47) was stuck in the truck for almost an hour due to the crowd at Jindabazar intersection. He said, there is no rush to return. That is why he is enjoying the victory celebration of Argentina fans. Although he was a supporter of the Saudi Arabian team this time. However, Messi has no regrets about winning the World Cup.
Meanwhile, around 1 a.m., around two hundred motorcycles were seen jamming at Chowhatta junction in the city. The young people were preparing for the procession from that intersection. A middle-aged man was seen riding an open-roofed microbus flying the flag of Argentina at Rikabibazar intersection. Around him, half a hundred young men and women were chanting the name of Argentina and Messi.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Mass) Sudip Das told Prothom Alo that there was no disorder in the celebration of Argentina’s victory in World Cup football. Residents of the city beautifully enjoyed the World Cup football final and celebrated the victory of their favorite team. The patrol team of Sylhet Metropolitan Police was in the field to control law and order. He expressed his gratitude to the city’s residents, commenting that the World Cup frenzy ended gracefully without any chaos.
