Coast Guard and Forest Department rescued 9 fishermen from Sundarbans

9 fishermen were rescued from Chodankhali canal under Kaga Dobeki patrol post of Sundarban West Forest Division. The Coast Guard and Forest Department rescued them by conducting a joint operation on Tuesday around 12 noon.

The rescued fishermen are Hiron Majhi, Jalil Howladar, Farooq Howladar of Lalua village of Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali. Feroze, Karim Khan, Sabuj Howlader, Yusuf Ali, Zahirul and Salim Howlader. Apart from this, Abbas Khan, Jewel Khan, Rakibul and Dulal Howladar of the same area are missing.
Those fishermen went to catch hilsa in the sea with a trawler from Kalapara of Patuakhali on August 19. The trawler belonged to Obaidul Gazi of that area. Four of the total 13 people are missing. The 9 persons who were rescued were given first aid and taken to Angtihara Coast Guard Patrol Outpost. From there arrangements are being made to take it to the Mongla Coast Guard office. They will be handed over to their families from that office.

Out of 13 fishermen in the trawler, 9 fishermen floated in the water and took shelter in Kalichar area of ​​Sundarbans. After making a wooden raft from there, he somehow came to the base of Chodankhali canal and took a position. They were spotted during routine patrol and rescued with the help of Coast Guard.

Ismail Hossain also said that those fishermen survived by eating raw crabs and leaves of trees for four days. They were very weak at the time of rescue. Later they were sent to Angtihara Coast Guard Patrol Post with the help of Coast Guard with first aid, food and clothes. According to the fishermen, there were 13 people in the trawler.

Abu Nasser Mohsin Hossain, Divisional Forest Officer of Sundarban West Forest Division told Prothom Alo that the rescued fishermen have been taken to a safe place with the help of the Coast Guard. Later they will be handed over to their families from there. Earlier on August 21, 21 fishermen were rescued from Haldibunia area of ​​Sundarbans and 41 fishermen from Mandarbaria area were rescued by the Smart Patrol Team of Satkhira Range of the Forest Department. Later they were handed over to their families.
