From Banani across the airport, there is a terrible traffic jam to Gazipur
From Banani of the capital to the airport area, people are suffering from the terrible traffic jam. The traffic jam is till Gazipur.
On Sunday morning, the roundabout area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport bus stand was almost knee-deep in rain. After that, from morning to noon, some were stuck in traffic from Banani to the airport area for three hours, some or four hours.
Gazipur Correspondent said that the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway has severe traffic congestion from Bordbazar in Gazipur to the airport and from Banani in the capital to Cherag Ali in Tongi. At the entrance to Dhaka, there is traffic congestion from Abdullahpur to the airport.
Many passengers stuck in the traffic took to social media (Facebook) to share their ordeal. Some told Prothom Alo about sitting in the same place in the bus for two to three hours, while others started walking from Banani to Uttara.
Talking to officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Uttara Traffic Police at around 1:15, it is known that the highway is already very narrow due to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in the airport area. Meanwhile, the rain water accumulates on the road. Due to the accumulation of water, the drivers cannot perceive the ditches and potholes. In this situation, long traffic jams are created on both sides on the way to and from Dhaka.
Traffic Uttara Division Deputy Police Commissioner Nabid Kamal told Prothom Alo around 1:15 a.m. that the water has been removed by irrigation. Now the vehicle is running. He said that the queue of traffic is from the airport to Nikunj area.
Sajib Ruram works as a salesman at a cloth showroom in Sector 5, Uttara. He wrote on social media, ‘Having the worst moment of my life (Walking from Banani to Uttara) Traffic Jam Part-3.’
Shyam Sagar Mankhin lives in Azampur area of the capital’s Uttara. He left home at eight o’clock in the morning to leave for Shekhartek in Mohammadpur. He told Prothom Alo, “I boarded the bus from Azampur bus stand around 8:30. I got stuck in traffic on the bus. In next three hours the car reaches Jasimuddin bus stand. At 11:30 pm, the bus was on the opposite side of Jasimuddin’s residence. Distance from Azampur bus stand to Jasimuddin bus stand is 850 meters. It takes 10 to 12 minutes to walk that distance. Three to five minutes by car.’
Shyam Sagar also said, “After getting off the bus, I tried to take ride sharing first. But not found. So I started walking. Walk to airport bus stand. From there, I boarded another bus at around 12:30 PM. He said that he was in Vijay Sarani area around 1:10 PM.
A person named Ajmir Ahmed expressed his anger on Facebook that he reached the airport in four hours from Baridhara in the capital.
Communicated with passenger Rubina Haque in front of Rajuk Uttara Model College. He said that he boarded the bus from Bordbazar to Dhaka’s Kakrail at eight o’clock in the morning. He was tired after sitting in the bus for almost four hours. So at one point he started walking under compulsion.
Abdullahpur traffic police box inspector Md. Sajjat Hossain told Prothom Alo, “No vehicle is able to enter the Gazipur section at normal speed due to the accumulation of rain water in the pits of the BRT project in the Milgate area of Tongir.” Again, rainwater has accumulated on the road in the airport area. Because of this no vehicle can enter Dhaka properly even from Gazipur. So people are suffering a lot since morning. We are also trying to normalize traffic.
Around 12:30 noon, the ground is seen, the vehicles on the road towards Abdullahpur are standing still. After a while the vehicles slow down for a short while. After that, it is standing again and some of the passengers got bored and left for their destination on foot
