Laundry businessman Fazlul Haque was honored by paying taxes for 38 years

In 1968, Sirajul Haque started a laundry business named M/s Bandbox in Dewanhat, Chittagong. Within a few days, Bandbox’s name spread throughout the area. After that, Sirajul did not have to look back. After his death in 1984, his son Fazlul Haque took over the business. Since then he has been paying taxes regularly. By paying taxes for a long time, he received the award of the best taxpayer in Chittagong this year.

Fazlul Haque was honored as the best taxpayer in the category of ‘long time taxpayer’ through a ceremony at Bangabandhu Hall of the World Trade Center located in Agrabad, Chittagong city on Wednesday afternoon. The income tax department of Chittagong organized the award ceremony.

Fazlul Haque (69), resident of Chittagong City Corporation area, got the honor for the first time. He said in an excited voice, income tax has to be paid to move the country forward. Padma bridge is completed, Chittagong tunnel is being built, Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar railway line is working. Income tax has to be paid for the implementation of these projects. And there is no alternative to paying income tax for the overall development of the state.

Of course, not only Fazlul Haque, Chittagong City Corporation and 5 districts of Chittagong division, 42 people who paid the highest and longest tax payer in the fiscal year 2021-22 were given honors and certificates. Chittagong City Mayor Md. was the chief guest in the event. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury. The special guest was Director General of Custom, Excise and VAT Training Academy Chittagong. Mahbubuzzaman, Tax Appellate Tribunal Chittagong Bench Member Maqbul Hossain, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mahbubul Alam. Tax Commissioner of Tax Zone-1 was also present. Iqbal Bahar, Tax Commissioner of Tax Zone-2 Samia Akhtar, Tax Commissioner of Tax Zone-3 Md. Shahadat Hossain Shikder and Tax Commissioner of Tax Zone-4 Chabina Yasmin. Tax Appellate Zone Commissioner (Appeals) Safina Jahan presided over the function.

In the event, the mayor said. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said, once women were neglected. He was behind in many ways. Now the situation has changed. Women have been empowered in all areas. Women are getting the best taxpayer award. It is undoubtedly a joy, a pride. The mayor also said that the process of paying taxes should be simplified. There are one to one and a half crore businessmen in the country. But not everyone pays taxes. So awareness should be raised to pay taxes.
