Earlier, the discovery of the refrigeration principle in 1824 led to the discovery of a method of cooling the air by evaporation of liquid ammonia. In 1840, physicist and physician John Garry proposed the idea of ​​cooling the cities of Florida to save city dwellers from high temperatures. According to him, this cooling method may be the only solution to cure various diseases like malaria.

Following the artificial cooling system, John Garry built a refrigerator using a compressor, but he failed to obtain a patent. Artificial cooling was discontinued for several years before the invention of the Willis Havilland carrier air conditioning.

In 1915, Career Engineering Corporation, the world’s largest AC manufacturer, was founded by Carrier and six engineers. The use of AC in residential houses started in 1926. At that time toxic gases like ammonia, propane, and methyl chloride were used in AC.

In 1928, Thomas Migley Jr. invented the Freon AC, a safe AC for people in residential, industrial, and commercial occupations. In 1930, the White House was air-conditioned.
But the AC invented by the carrier was so huge that a house was needed to keep it. As a result, this AC could not be used without big factories. Later, in 1945, Robert Sherman invented the portable AC, which could be used by the window. This AC filtered the air in the house as well as kept the house cool on hot days and warm on winter days. Haviland Carrier died on October 8, 1950. In 1979, United Technologies of America bought Career Engineering.
