Unlimited investment opportunities in dollar bonds for expatriate Bangladeshis
The government has issued a new notification to reduce the profit rate of US dollar premium bonds and US dollar investment bonds for expatriate Bangladeshis by almost half. Both the bonds have been given profit at four levels for so many days. Now there are three levels.
Earlier, a maximum of one crore rupees could be invested in two bonds, but now there is unlimited investment. The Finance Ministry’s Internal Resources Department (IRD) on Monday issued a notification in this regard. Bonds are two financial products of the Department of National Savings. But sources said the department did not know anything about it. The notification was not uploaded on the website of the department. Although the IRD issued a notification, it is learned that the instruction came from the finance department.
At the end of the first year, the return on investment in US dollar premium bonds up to 1 million would have been 6.5 percent. Now you can get 4.5 percent profit. Similarly, at the end of the second year, 5 percent will be available instead of 6 percent and at the end of the third year, 5.5 percent will be available instead of 7.5 percent.
Apart from this, by investing 1 lakh 1 to 5 lakh dollars, 3.5 percent profit will be obtained at the end of the first year, 4 percent at the end of the second year and 4.5 percent at the end of the third year. In return for investing more than 5 lakh 1 dollars, the return will be 2.5 percent at the end of the first year, 3 percent at the end of the second year and 3.5 percent at the end of 3 years
Meanwhile, investing up to Lakh 1 million in US dollar investment bonds will yield 4% instead of 5.5% at the end of the first year, 4.5% instead of 6% at the end of the second year and 5% at the end of the third year.
Apart from this, against the investment of 1 lakh 1 to 5 lakh dollars, at the end of the first year, 5.5 to 3 percent, at the end of the second year, instead of 6 percent, 3.5 percent and at the end of the period, 6 percent instead of 3.5 percent profit will be obtained. For an investment of more than lakh 5.1 million, the return will be 2% instead of 5.5% at the end of the first year, 2.5% instead of 6% at the end of the second year and 3% instead of 6.5% at the end of 3 years.
There is another bond introduced by the Department of National Savings for expatriate Bangladeshis. Its name is Wage Earner Development Bond. There is nothing in the new notification to reduce the rate and level of profit of this bond. At the end of 5 years, the rate of return on this bond is 12 percent.
